Now is the time to sort through your broken kitchen gadgets, faulty lamps and torn clothing and bring them to the Historic Salem Courthouse on Saturday, April 26th, 1-4 pm, for local volunteers to fix them for free.
Repair coaches (fixers) can work on items such as mendable clothing, lamps, jewelry, small appliances, electronic software, toys, and small furniture. They can also sharpen knives, scissors, and gardening tools.
Two very successful Repair Cafés were held in 2024, led by Sustainable Hebron with support from Climate Smart Salem. Jill Nadolski, Sustainable Hebron Coordinator, said: “This is our second year organizing Repair Cafés in Washington County. Last year over 150 items were fixed with a very high level of satisfaction.”
A new feature of the Hebron-Salem Repair Café will be the participation of the Shoppe off Broadway, the thrift store on the Historic Salem Courthouse campus. Guests to the Repair Café can choose to donate their fixed item to the shop for resale to benefit the local community.
Repair Cafés are a fun way to reduce how much stuff goes into the waste stream, preserve traditional repair know-how, and pass on those skills to others.
Hebron-Salem Repair Cafe returns April 26th!
